Regulation and Discipline

Barristers and solicitors are currently approved, admitted and enrolled as either Barristers or Solicitors of the Supreme Court of Gibraltar pursuant to the Supreme Court Act 1960.

Disciplinary matters as well as ordinary admission petitions are considered by the Admissions and Disciplinary Committee established by the Barristers and Solicitors Rules. These Rules were in turn introduced under the Supreme Court Act.

Currently complaints in relation to members of the Bar should be filed with the Registrar of the Supreme Court, 277 Main Street, Gibraltar.

The Bar Council is currently working with Government in relation to proposals to review the system of regulation of the legal profession in Gibraltar and would intend to make announcements as soon as practicable in respect to the same.
